May 31, 1985 Tornado outbreak occurred in Ohio and Pennsylvania

May 31, 1985 a tornado outbreak occurred in Ohio and Pennsylvania that was one of the worst outbreaks in history. Some website speculate 12th worst and other say 13th worst. I was there and remember it as if it were yesterday with extremely vivid memories. Perseids meteor shower is happening NOW

The annual show of light in the sky, created by the Swift-Tuttle Comet, Perseids (after the constellation Perseus) has begun and will reach it's peak around 00:00 hours on August 12, 2009. If you can find a safe, dark and quiet spot away from the city lights, you should be able to look a little towards the east and see the Perseids meteor shower. The moon isn't going to be in the best position to see a spectacular show, but either way, you should check it out. The moons light may obstruct some of the magical light created by these particles, but if you keep your eyes peeled you should be able to get a glimpse. The best time to see the show is during the peak from the evening of August 11, 2009 until the dawn on August 12, 2009. Catfish tourney tonight on the Ohio River

Catfish tourney tonight somewhere on the Ohio River... hope to do well, it's been raining up north and should cause the stage to rise, hopefully waking up the monster flatheads that hang out in the river. An arsenal of bait is being gathered, skipjack herring, chicken liver

, goldfish, night crawlers, shiners and hopefully someone will bring a few bluegill, a shovelhead favorite! 50% chance of rain the remainder of the night, so i guess that means we have a 50/50 chance of staying somewhat dry!

Looks to be rained out, thunderstorms up north making it miserable outside.

Hook setting technique for catfish

Hooking a catfish can be easier than most other fish. The first thing you want to do when you see the top of your pole tap down is to take it easy, giving your catfish time to get the bait in its mouth. If you are using a circle hook (highly suggested), you don't necessarily have to yank the rod back hard. Just a gentle pull should give you the desired result, as long as he has taken it. This method will likely not yield the same result when using standard hooks. With a circle hook, once the catfish takes the bait, clamps down and starts to move the bait in his mouth, the natural curve of the circle should slip right into the side of his cheek. Catfish baits that work

I think the most important part of catfishing is simply enjoying it and not overcomplicating it. Baits should be simple. I always take several different types of bait on my trips, try two different ones and switch them up if they aren't attracting the desired level of action.

Some catfish baits I use most frequently are good old fashion nightcrawlers. Nightcrawlers are easy to come by and usually are the good ole stand-by bait for catfish. My second favorite cat bait is clearly the obvious chicken livers. They are stinky, messy, hard to get to stay on the hook, but almost always pull a bite, if not a catfish, a striper or fresh water drum (in the Ohio River).

A bait I've been turned onto recently though is the Skipjack Herring. You can buy them frozen online or some bait shops even carry them these days. I read an article a couple weeks ago that the record Blue Catfish in Ohio was caught on one of these bad boys. I tried some a couple weeks ago, had a nibble, but nothing brought to the bank.
